Green & Black’s Fair Trade Commitment

fair_trade_logo.jpgGreen & Black’s announced in February that they’ve made a commitment to move its entire chocolate range to Fair Trade Certified in the United States. The organic chocolate maker is committing to a $6.5 million support program over the next 10 years to ensure the sustainability of cocoa growing communities in the Dominican Republic.

Through its long term commitment to the Dominican Republic and Belize, Green & Black’s will move to Fair Trade certification for its entire product range by TransFair USA. This ensures their cocoa farmers receive a fair price for their crops and an additional social premium fee which is invested in the community for improvements to social, economic and environmental needs.

The Fair Trade mark guarantees the products you buy will benefit farmers in developing countries.  The company says, “we believe Fair Trade is the most rigorous licensing program and we are working closely with international and local organizations to ensure the impact is realized by the farmers.”

Green & Blacks expects 100% of its range to be Fair Trade Certified and available to Americans by the end of the year.
