Thanks to all of our shoppers who bring in reusable bags and turn their nickel refund into a bean to donate to our local organizations. Every year the Port Townsend Food Co-op raises over $6,000 for local groups that are nominated as recipients by our owners. If you haven’t filled out a nomination form for your favorite non-profit organization, pick on up at the Member Services desk in the store today.
Remember, November 1, 2012 will be the date our Port Townsend plastic bag ban begins. This new local ordinance will require that we charge a mandatory nickel fee for every recyclable paper bag requested by our shoppers. We’ve never used plastic bags at the Co-op, but we do give shoppers a nickel for every reusable bag or container brought in to the store for that visit’s use.
