4-5 pm: Keynote by guest speakers Beth Robinette and Joel Williamson, founders of LINC Foods, a new cooperative food hub in Spokane, WA, followed by an overview of our local food system by Food Co-op board member David Wayne Johnson.

Meet our guest speakers

Joel & Beth of LINC FoodsBeth Robinette and Joel Williamson are two young eastern Washington food system innovators who founded of LINC—Local Inland Northwest Cooperative—which connects Spokane area farmers and producers with local businesses like universities, hospitals, and restaurants.

LINC’s mission is to build “a regional, sustainable food system by linking local farmers to new markets and ensuring the highest quality products for our customers through democratic enterprise.” They’re off to a great start. As Beth described it in their blog:

“We have gotten local food at some level into nearly every single area school district. I never could have imagined we would accomplish that in the first year. We have experienced tremendous support from our area universities, particularly Gonzaga, who has been an amazing partner. We’ve heard from the top rated chefs in Spokane (and I am proud to say that we have quite a few now) that they see real value in what we are doing. And most importantly, I feel so much support from the farmers we work with. I am so incredibly proud to call these people not only part of my community, but my friends.”

Vicki RobinwebOur 2014 annual meeting was held Sunday, June 1, 3-6pm at the Northwest Maritime Center. It featured Guest speaker Vicki Robin, co-author of Your Money Or Your Life and author of Blessing the Hands That Feed Us: What Eating Closer to Home Can Teach Us About Food, Community, and Our Place on Earth which describes her adventures in eating only foods grown within a 10-mile radius of her home on Whidbey Island. Afterwards, we honored our local farmers, served seasonal food made from local ingredients, and gave away prizes.
