July/August Beans For Bags Spotlight: Jefferson County Anti-Racist Fund

JCARF is a community supported reparations and mutual aid project focused on the individual and collective wellness of our local community of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). We raise funds and in-kind contributions from folks who benefit from white privilege and redistribute these resources to BIPOC currently living within (East) Jefferson County and the Indigenous descendants of the original inhabitants of this territory who live nearby, such as S’Klallam and Makah people.

JCARF is a unique project that strives to exist outside of conventional charity and non-profit models. Since our founding in February 2019, we have facilitated hundreds of thousands of dollars in reparations and wealth redistribution to our BIPOC community members. This has been in the form of direct payments as well as peer-to-peer fundraisers. We also distribute in-kind contributions like wellness services, gift certificates, cars, and housing/land access.

Over the last few weeks we have been focused on our upcoming CSA season. This will be our fourth year of providing free boxes of locally grown food as a response to the impact of systemic racism. A big thank you to the community, our CSA members, and for all the farms that made this year's CSA a reality!

2024 will be an exciting year for JCARF as we are in the process of restructuring our ‘reparative mutual aid’ model. For our 5-year anniversary, we hope to fortify our work and make it replicable for other communities. If you are interested and want to contribute or collaborate, visit our website www.jcarf.org and join our newsletter or become a monthly subscriber. Thank you for your continued support.
