November/December Beans for Bags Spotlight: Camp Beausite Northwests

At Camp Beausite Northwest (CBNW), we believe that everyone deserves a place where they are welcomed, celebrated, and supported. CBNW was founded in 1989, we located to our currently property in Chimacum, WA, just off of West Valley rd. in 1994. We have been mission driven from the start to provide an inclusive camp experience for people with disabilities and their families. Our purpose is simple. To provide social, emotional, and educational outdoor experiences for people who would not otherwise have this opportunity. Additionally, we simultaneously provide respite for their families and caregivers. A component of the disabilities world that is heavily needed and rarely found.

In 2025, CBNW will provide over 75,000 hours of vital respite services to families and caregivers across the Pacific Northwest. These hours represent more than time—they offer rest, relief, and the assurance that loved ones are receiving compassionate, high-quality care. Many of our campers rely on state funding through Medicaid to make these opportunities possible, but these dollars are increasingly at risk of being reduced or eliminated altogether. Camp Beausite Northwest is committed to growing the organization to a place of financial stability where we can continue to offer these essential programs regardless of state funding, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to belonging.

Every dollar raised through the co-op helps us offer more camper scholarships, enhance our programs, and invest in staff training so that we can give every camper the best experience possible. We are hopeful that through awesome grass-roots programs like beans for bags, that more of our community learns about CBNW, what we do, and who we support.

People with disabilities are an integral part of every community, transcending all demographics, including race, age, and socioeconomic status. No population is exempt from the possibility of a diagnosis, making the special needs community a universally shared experience. Despite this pervasive presence, advocacy and funding for individuals with disabilities remain alarmingly low. This disparity highlights the urgent need for increased support and resources to ensure that all individuals with disabilities have access to the opportunities and assistance they need to thrive.

One of the greatest ways to support CBNW is to become a donor, volunteer your time, or rent our retreat center for reunions, retreats, or weddings—every contribution helps keep the magic of camp alive and growing.
