Super Tuesday with the The Food Co-op

Maybe you’ve heard about something Super happening next Tuesday, March 3rd, something to do with elections? That’s right—it’s the Food Co-op’s monthly board meeting, at 5:30 pm in the Co-op Annex, 2110 Lawrence Street!

What does a board meeting have to do with elections? We’re looking for member-owners to run for the Co-op board this summer. The monthly meeting is your chance to meet the board and learn what we do.

To be successful on the Co-op board, you don’t need business or board experience. What you need is a collaborative mindset, willingness to learn, and motivation to serve our community. In return, board service will prepare you to take on other leadership roles in business, government, or non-profits. We’ll support you to attend trainings and conferences to develop your skills. And we’ll take care of you—board members get Co-op store cards, and we always share good food at board meetings.

What does the board do? In just the last few years, our board has renewed The Food Co-op’s mission and values, helped guide the store expansion and marketing refresh, and set a visionary 5-year strategic plan. The board elected this summer will guide our Co-op through its 50th anniversary in 2022. And we do it all without insults, trolls, bots, or foreign interference.

We get it: conflict can be more exciting than harmony. Maybe you want to watch that other election instead? Meanwhile, we will persist and deliver on our promise to member-owners, expressed in our mission statement: Working together to nourish our community.

We hope you’ll consider joining us!

—Owen Rowe, Board President
