SNAP–Match Changes at The Food Co-op

SNAP-Match will be ending, in its current form, at the end of this month. The current program, where SNAP customers can get $10.00 off eligible produce purchases of $10.01 or more, will be reverting to the previous program. In that earlier program, EBT customers got $5 off if they purchased $10.00 or more of eligible produce when using their EBT card.

Why the change?

Many of you may be wondering why the program is changing back, when quite recently the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) stated that the $10 off program would continue. Well, this ended up being contingent on stores being able to upgrade their point of sale to work with EBT cards automatically. Unfortunately, ECRS (our POS provider) has not been able to finish the work needed for the program by the deadline. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service has decided that since ECRS did not meet the deadline, the program cannot continue in its current form. Instead, we are allowed to go back to the original SNAP-Match format where SNAP customers can get $5 off when they purchase $10 or more of eligible produce.

We know this change may come as a disappointment. Staff have really enjoyed the expanded program, though we are all happy to be able to continue the $5 SNAP-Match program.
