March/April Beans for Bags Spotlight: Humane Society of Jefferson County
Whiskers, Wags, and Wellness: Unleashing Love and Care at the Humane Society of Jefferson County!
The Humane Society of Jefferson County has been an integral part of our community since it was established as a nonprofit in 2009, continuing to be the only open admittance animal shelter available for Jefferson County residents to this day.
In the time since the shelter was acquired from the County, over 10,000 animals have come through the doors, from sweet strays to severe medical cases, abandoned or surrendered pets, and even transfers from overcrowded shelters in other states.
No matter what the reason, all are treated with the greatest care and kindness during their journey with us.
Valuable services offered to our community include low income spay & neuter clinics, vaccine & microchip clinics, animal adoptions, dog licensing, humane trap rentals, and animal cremations.
Funds raised from your donation through the Food Coop’s Beans for Bags program will help fund vaccines and food for the animals residing at the Humane Society, as well as shelter, surgical supplies, and life-saving medication.
Your donation to the Humane Society supports the care of animals like Pearl, a deaf and almost completely blind Australian shepherd mix that was surrendered to us in December 2023.
Pearl didn’t know how to make her way in the world when she was brought to us as a puppy.
No one knew the extent of what she could or couldn’t do, but she instantly became a fixture and a favorite at the shelter, with volunteers and staff training and socializing her for the two months she stayed with us and grew.
When Pearl was adopted in early February, she left the Humane Society with a greater trust of new people and animals, some basic puppy manners mastered, and of course spayed, chipped, and ready for her forever home.
Going into 2024, we are excited to introduce our new executive director, Jen Dupree, who came to us from Kitsap Humane Society where she worked in animal behavior and enrichment. Jen has 8+ years of valuable animal shelter experience to share.
Your donations, whether they be dollar amounts, or beans in a jar at the Food Coop, go to work immediately at the Animal Shelter to fill multiple needs. Should you have to surrender your cat or dog for any reason, the Humane Society of Jefferson County will always be here for you. And for them.
