Tastes Like Summer: Refreshing Iced Drinks
Cold Brew Flor de Jamaica
This traditional Mexican tea is sweet, tart & refreshing! It is so simple to make with Organic BULK ingredients from the CO-OP!
Ingredients
1/2 cup Dried Organic Hibiscus Flowers
4 cups water
Place in jar in fridge overnight and strain out flowers in the morning!
Sweeten as desired
squeeze of lime is traditional
variations include: a Cinnamon stick or a tablespoon of dried mint
Watermelon Agua Fresca
Ingredients
4 cups cubed seeded watermelon
½ cup water
simple syrup (1:1 sugar dissolved in water) to taste
slices lime to squeeze
mint for garnish
ice
Directions
Puree the watermelon and water in a blender until smooth. Add sugar to taste. Pour the watermelon agua fresca over ice, and garnish before serving.
Tamarind Iced Tea
The tangy and tart sweetness, when mellowed with sugar and water, is just about perfection for an incredibly refreshing summer drink.
Ingredients
4 black tea bags
1/4 cup honey (or Simple Syrup)
1/2 cup Tamarind Paste
lemon slices
ice
Directions
Boil 6 cups water, turn off, add 4 black tea bags, brew 20 min. & remove bags
To the still warm tea add: 1/4 C. honey (or Simple Syrup) and 1/2 C. Tamarind Paste (the Co-op carries Aunt Pattys Organic paste)
STIR, STIR, STIR & add slices of lemon
Pour over ice and ENJOY!
Agua de Melon
Melon water is a simple blend of ripe cantaloupe, water, & sugar served chilled. One of the many delicious aguas frescas served throughout Mexico. Create a delicious summer refresher!
Ingredients
1/2 Organic Cantaloupe
1 quart water
1/4 cup sugar
Directions
Slice the melon in half and scoop out the seeds.
Reserve the remaining half of the melon.
Remove the rind and cut your melon into 1" chunks.
Blend the melon with 1 quart of water, ½ cup of sugar, and serve over ice.
Strain for a smoother drink.
