570 co-op members voted for four new board of directors!

THANK YOU for participating in your co-op governance!

We will donate $570 to the Food Bank, as promised.

The 2020 Food Co-op board election is complete, and we have four new members: Kate Nichols, Dave Dunn, Charlie Dick, and Claire Cunningham! They will begin their terms with the August board meeting. Dave is beginning a 2-year term, and the others have 3-year terms. (We try to stagger board terms so we have no more than three new members at a time, but that wasn’t possible this year.) To “meet” your new board members, check out their candidate statements at Meet the Candidates.

The board election process was a little different this year. The election cycle was two months later in order to dovetail with the new publishing date of the Co-op newsletter, Around the Table. Due to the coronavirus, we replaced our in-person Cake with the Candidates event with a virtual Meet the Candidates at our online annual general meeting on June 27. Voting began that day and ran, as usual, for two weeks, with online and in-store voting.

Board members Monica le Roux and Lisa Barclay are finishing up their terms this month. Each has served seven years on the board, and both will be continuing as board emeritae—that is, they will continue with some board work such as committees and mentoring, but they will not have a vote. Our emeritae give us continuity, experience, and help us keep the knowledge they gained over the last seven years.

If you are interested in serving on the board, the first step is coming to a board meeting. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus, board meetings are currently only held virtually. If you are interested in attending a meeting once we can hold them in person again, email boardsecretary@foodcoop.coop, and we’ll let you know when in-person meetings begin.
