A letter from one of our vendors, CAMAMU, a husband and wife team committed to green living, and continuing the ethos and mission of creating 100% natural skin care products through artisanal techniques.

Why We Care.

In today’s world, we are forced to face the difficult truth that we are up to our necks in a plastic crisis.

The facts are jarring: a whopping 91 percent of plastics are not recycled globally, 40 percent of plastic

products are used just once and we now have 9.2 billion tons of plastic waste to deal with on a global

scale - the equivalent of 4.6 billion average size U.S. cars. How long until all that plastic breaks down?

Estimates range from 450 years to never.

Did you know the average household of 4 consumes about 75 liquid soaps, shampoos and conditioners

a year? According to DoSomething.org, 50 percent of people in the U.S. don't recycle personal care or

hygiene items. Failing to recycle bathroom products means 552 million plastic bottles could wind up in

the U.S. landfill every year and with a mere 9% of U.S. recyclable waste actually being recycled, it’s

critical.

For us, good ideas start in the bath.

It is our mission to always be looking for ways to create as little

waste as possible. At Camamu, we strive to not pass on the problem of plastic to the customer. We like

to solve these issues while they’re in our squeaky clean hands.

This is why we do not make liquid soaps or shampoos and why our bar soaps and shampoos are 100%

biodegradable, full of ethically sourced ingredients, including the label, which is acid-free and made from

pulp produced from sustainable forestry practices. Using bar soaps also benefits your skin because

therapeutic essential oils get more direct skin-healing time than drain time. Plus, you get nothin’ but

soap unlike most bottled soaps and shampoos that mostly consist of water… our bars are concentrated

goodness, you just add - - the water. That way, you’re getting more bang for your buck and a soap that

will last you longer.

When we can cut out plastics for our body care products, we always do by choosing glass, metal or

recycled ingredients, when plastic is the only viable option for the moment, we use plastics that are fully

CAMAMU recyclable. Our packaging is also certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which gives

customers the option to choose forest products, like paper and wood, that have been sourced in an

environmentally friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner. By choosing Camamu bar

soaps and shampoos, together we have kept more than 1,200,000 (and counting!) plastic bottles out of

landfills and oceans and we intend to keep it that way.

What to Do?

The best way to reduce single-use plastics that are at the heart of the global pollution crisis is YOU

being part of the revolution! We will continue to make environmentally responsible and ethically made

body products that are good for both you and the environment. One small tweak to your beauty regime

can help change this. Join the revolution one bar at a time! Check us out, we’re always here for

questions.

Cheers,

Team Camamu
