Seven years ago we formed our own green team whose task is to help improve our environmental stewardship in our store and our grounds. The team loves to get down and dirty, conducting waste audits of the Co-op’s trash.
It’s a funky job, but important to learn how we can divert waste from the landfill. What we know is that 26% of our waste is soiled paper - paper towels and compostable deli containers - and we would love to see a municipal-wide commercial composting program as a solution to this growing problem for our community.
