Why Are We Here?
Seeking to uphold the health of our community and world, The Food Co-op, a consumer co-operative, serves our membership by making available reasonably priced whole foods and other basic goods and resources by means of our life-affirming democratic organization.
—The Food Co-op’s Mission Statement (2007)
Over the next six months, the board will lead an in-depth review of The Food Co-op’s Mission and Principles statements. Our ultimate goal is to build a shared understanding among all our stakeholders (member-owners, staff, management, and board) of why we do what we do together. One of the ways we’ll do this is by considering clearer, crisper wording which makes these statements more effective.
We’ll be starting this process at our board meeting on Tuesday, November 6th, at 5:30 in the Co-op Annex, 2110 Lawrence St. Our first step will be to understand and clarify the purpose of these statements in relation to our framework of governing and guiding documents, including our Articles of Incorporation, our Bylaws, our 2018-2022 Strategic Plan, and our Board Policies and Procedures.
Yes, it’s election night—a good time to keep our focus on the long term. We hope you can join us.
